The holiday season may be over but there’s certainly no shortage of community activities here in the Peoria, Illinois area.

To help you and your family get through the cold month of January, I’ve compiled a list of some fun indoor activities going on in the Peoria area this month.

Family-Friendly Activities in Peoria This Month

I hope you and your family get to enjoy at least one of these community events this month in Peoria:

Square Dancing: Come learn this long-time dance at this square dancing event hosted by the Peoria Area Square Dancing Association.  Concessions will be served throughout the event.

Harlem Globetrotters: Celebrating their 86th consecutive year, the Harlem Globetrotters will come to the Peoria, Illinois area on January 18 to perform their one-of-a-kind basketball ball-handling tricks.  This is something that every family should witness at least once!

  • When: 7 p.m. on January 18
  • Where: Peoria Civic Center
  • Admission: Prices vary

German Dinner:  Come enjoy a traditional German dinner every Friday night at the Lindenhof.  There will also be German beer on draft for parents.  A typical meal includes wierner schnitzel, sauerbraten, huhner (turkey) schnitzel, wienerwald (chicken) huehnchen, beef rouladen, spaetzle, sauerkraut and red cabbbage

  • When: 5 to 8 p.m. every Friday
  • Where: The Lindenhof, 7601 N. Harker Drive, Peoria, Illinois
  • Admission:Free admission and parking.  Meals are normally $12 for adults & $6.00 for children. Desserts $2 Extra. Children 5 & Under – Free

Xtreme Spirit Go Big! Championship: Come check out this regional dancing competition in which various groups from different grade levels compete for gold, silver and bronze award bids. The public is welcome to attend.

  • When: January 7 through 9
  • Where: Peoria Civic Center 201 Southwest Jefferson Avenue Peoria, IL
  • Admission: $10 for spectators
